Alcoa Highlights Sustainable Aluminum Design for Building and Construction Industry at Greenbuild 2009

November 3, 2009

NEW YORK–Alcoa aluminum has always offered unique advantages for designing the
shape, appearance and finish of modern buildings. Today it offers an
even more important advantage: sustainability. That is what visitors to
Alcoa booth (#1162) will see for themselves at the 2009
Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Phoenix on November
10-12.

The exhibit shows how aluminum products from Alcoa help architects
optimize the physical environment by making buildings more energy
efficient with greater natural lighting and cooling using lightweight,
strong and flexible products, like Alcoa’s Reynobond® aluminum composite
material. Reynobond® is used around the work in a wide range of
architectural and specialty applications.

Also featured is a montage of LEED (Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design) certified buildings that include Alcoa and our
Kawneer architectural aluminum products as sustainable solutions, such
as the 1600 SunShade®, a pre-engineered, easy-to-install sunshade that
helps achieve maximum daylighting, while minimizing direct sunlight. In
addition, throughout the show visitors to the Alcoa booth can learn the
company’s sustainability story and how aluminum factors in the
cradle-to-cradle concept of eliminating waste, because of the metal’s
infinite recyclability.

“When you combine Green Building advantages with aluminum’s well-known
recyclable, aesthetic and design benefits, it’s little wonder that high
performance, Green Buildings start with Alcoa aluminum,” said Dave
Schlendorf, President-Alcoa Building and Construction Systems.

The Alcoa booth was constructed using a variety of ecofriendly materials
including custom curved, recyclable aluminum sheet panels and framing,
Reynobond® aluminum composite panel with a surface almost
indistinguishable from real wood, recyclable ECOstone rubber flooring,
LED lighting elements, ENERGY STAR rated computer monitors, acrylic low
VOC paints and clear coating, and water based adhesives.
