Alcoa Rigid Packaging Has Distinction of Being Only Supplier to
Receive Supplier Join-In Award in Consecutive Years

NEW YORK–Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that its Rigid Packaging Division was
awarded the “Supplier Join-In Award” from Crown Cork & Seal North
America, for the second consecutive year. Alcoa supplies the packaging
producer with aluminum can sheet from its Warrick (Indiana) Operations
and Tennessee Operations.

Crown created the Supplier Join-In Award to strengthen its
customer-supplier relationships in many areas from innovation to quality
performance. The award is an annual recognition of suppliers
demonstrating the best example of adhering to and exceeding the program
goals.

“This recognition goes to the Alcoa employees who worked jointly on
projects to make the supplier relationship stronger, create value for
both companies, and provide opportunities for future innovation,” said
Kent Johnson, Commercial Director, Alcoa Rigid Packaging.

“More than any other aluminum supplier, Alcoa has embraced the key
concepts of our process. During meetings with Alcoa, discussions were
held with dozens of individuals from different parts of the organization
— Safety, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Technical, Marketing,
Sales and Customer Service along with Senior Management. This type of
commitment will lead us to even better performance in 2010,” said
Richard H. Nunn, Vice President of Sourcing, Crown Cork & Seal USA.

Some of the projects completed in 2009 through the program include:

  • Training – Alcoa provided training classes and technical
support to Crown personnel to better understand beverage can and end
making, as well as the food cans-making process.
  • Cost Reductions –Joint cost reduction activities, including
weight and gauge reduction, are expected to bring significant savings
    to both parties in 2010.
  • Company Participation – Alcoa’s involvement from all levels of
the organization exemplified its sincere commitment to the partnership.

Alcoa Rigid Packaging serves customers worldwide by providing aluminum
sheet for a wide variety of packaging applications including food and
beverage containers.
