Annual Sustainability Publication Ranks Alcoa First

NEW YORK–Alcoa (NYSE:AA) has been named “Sustainable Company of the Year” in
Brazil’s Exame magazine’s 2010 Sustainability Guide, the Company
announced today. The annual guide, in its 11th edition, selects and
recognizes the sustainable actions of 20 model companies every year.

Exame’s Sustainability Guide is Brazil´s most prestigious
annual survey on corporate social responsibility.

“It’s truly a great honor and to rank first amongst the most sustainable
corporations in Brazil, particularly when Exame’s ranking
includes the country’s most prestigious enterprises,” said Franklin L.
Feder, President, Alcoa Latin America & Caribbean. “This recognition
crowns the contributions of approximately 6,400 Alcoans in Brazil who
every day contribute towards enhancing the sustainability of our
operations in this country.”

The ranking is coordinated by the Center for Sustainability Studies of
the Getulio Vargas Foundation, which evaluates the strategies,
commitments and practices of companies within the three dimensions of
sustainability: environmental responsibility, economic/financial success
and social commitment.

The ranking also covers business practices, transparency and corporate
governance. After reviewing the companies, a deliberative council
selected by Exame meets to choose the top 20 model companies and
the Sustainable Company of the Year.

This is the fifth time Alcoa has been recognized as a model company in
sustainability by Exame’s Guide.

The names of the 20 model companies in Exame’s Sustainability Guide
2010, as well as that of Alcoa as the Sustainable Company of the Year,
were announced on November 10th during an award ceremony held in São
Paulo. For more information visit www.portalexame.com.br.
