Alcoa Products on First Aluminum Petroleum Road Tanker in Indonesia

March 29, 2011

FUSINA, Italy & SURABAYA, Indonesia & NEW YORK–The first aluminum petroleum road tanker produced in Indonesia took to
the highway recently made with Alcoa’s heavy gauge aluminum shate
product and rolling on Alcoa aluminum truck wheels.

5182 RoadTanker ShateG1, a combined sheet and
plate product of a specific thickness, was developed by Alcoa Mill
Products Europe for road tankers that transport hazardous freight. PT.
MECO INOXPRIMA, one of the largest suppliers of liquid propane gas (LPG)
storage and LPG transport tanks in Indonesia, is the first company to
produce the aluminum tank transporter in the country.

Alcoa’s 5182 RoadTanker ShateG1 is an improved version of
5182 shate with properties that meet international standards for safety,
load and operation. Alcoa’s Fusina, Italy, plant has supplied shate to
Meco since the company began working on the prototype two years ago. The
machine-finished aluminum truck wheels were produced at Alcoa’s
operations in Székesfehérvár, Hungary, and were delivered by Alcoa Wheel
Products Asia.

“Meco has made history being the pioneer in the aluminum road tanker
business in Indonesia. At the same time it is creating a positive
environmental impact, because the energy-efficient, lightweight aluminum
tankers will result in lower emissions, and because aluminum is
infinitely recyclable,” said Ingrid Muehlboeck, President, Alcoa
European Mill Products.

“Using the Alcoa RTS eValuator, a tool created for customers to
calculate their savings, it is easy to visualize that aluminum can allow
savings up to 1900 liters (502 gallons) of fuel per year. This means a
reduction of 78 tons of CO2 emissions over the lifetime of each vehicle.”

“Meco aims to continuously improve to meet our customers’ needs,” said
Subjahta Widjaja, President Director of PT. MECO INOXPRIMA. “With an
aluminum petroleum tanker we are assured there will be no fuel
contamination, and our customers are realizing fuel savings and lower
maintenance cost, while carrying heavier loads.” Mr. Widjaja added that
Meco is cognizant in assuring the quality of its products and in
complying with International UN-ADR (United Nations – Assessment of
Development) standards and road regulations.

Meco is supplying the new aluminum petroleum road tanker to several
customers, including oil and gas companies transporting PT. PERTAMINA’s
fuel products.

Alcoa supplies its 5182TankerShateG1 to customers worldwide
for construction of road tankers for storing and transporting dangerous
goods. Alcoa wheels are used by customers worldwide in the commercial
transportation, automotive and defense markets.
