Alcoa Congratulates Tesla on the All-Aluminum Model S Being Named Automobile Magazine’s ‘Car of the Year’

November 6, 2012

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Alcoa (NYSE:AA) today congratulated Tesla Motors on the Tesla Model S electric vehicle, an all-aluminum premium sedan, being named Automobile Magazine’s 2013 Car of the Year.

The body of Model S is a state-of-the-art, aluminum-intensive design and has won accolades across the industry. It accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.6 seconds, with zero tailpipe emissions.

In naming the Tesla Model S the 2013 Car of the Year, Automobile Magazine said, “It’s the performance that won us over….The crazy speed builds silently and then pulls back the edges of your face. It had all of us endangering our licenses.”

The magazine added, “Practically every new car claims to be revolutionary. But this one actually feels like it is, to the point that many of us were reaching outside the automotive lexicon to describe it. It reminds (us) of the first time (we) used an iPhone.”

“We have always said that the all-aluminum Tesla Model S is a marvel and it is great to see a leading publication such as Automobile Magazine agree,” said Mark Vrablec, President of Alcoa Aerospace, Transportation and Industrial Products, part of Alcoa’s Global Rolled Products group. “We congratulate the entire Tesla team on this achievement and we look forward to their continued revolutionary work.”
