NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Alcoa (NYSE:AA) Board of Directors has appointed Susan Ringler Vice President and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer. Ringler, who will join Alcoa on June 1, has been a Deputy General Counsel of Xylem Inc., a global water technology company that was spun off from ITT Corporation in 2011. At Xylem she provides strategy and regulatory advice, as well as oversight and supervision of policies and programs involving compliance with U.S. and foreign laws and regulations. She succeeds Judith Nocito, Director, Global Compliance and Assistant General Counsel, who will retire August 1 after a distinguished 34-year career with Alcoa.

In 2006, Ringler joined ITT Corporation, where she created and implemented its first global anti-corruption program. Earlier in her career, she served as General Counsel under Chairman Paul Volcker of the Independent Inquiry Committee investigating the United Nations Oil for Food Programme, a large international corruption investigation spanning six continents. She also investigated fraud and corruption in World Bank-financed projects, and worked on developing best practices for investigations. As part of her work with the American Bar Association’s Central and East European Law Initiative, Ringler developed and managed criminal justice reform assistance and training programs in Russia and the former Soviet Republics. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the White Collar Fraud Group of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland from 1985-1998, Ringler prosecuted complex federal fraud and corruption cases. Previously, she was a trial attorney at Semmes, Bowen and Semmes.

Nocito to retire

During a career that began in Alcoa’s Legal Department in 1979, Nocito served as Counsel for many Alcoa businesses and Group Counsel for several large business units including Alcoa Aerospace and Commercial Transportation, and Engineered Products and Solutions. Nocito was elected Assistant Secretary of Alcoa in 2002 and Corporate Secretary a year later. In 2009, she took on her current position of Director of Global Compliance.

Nocito is a member of the Board of Directors of Girls Hope of Pittsburgh, Inc., and the National Aviary. In addition, she is a member of the Dickinson School of Law of Pennsylvania State University’s Board of Counselors, an advisory group to the Dean and President of the University on matters relating to the law school. Nocito is also a member of the Conference Board’s Council on Corporate Compliance and Ethics; the Ethics and Compliance Officers Association; the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics; the American Bar Association; the District of Columbia Bar Association; and the Corporate Counsel Association.
