Margaret Lam was elected Assistant Secretary of Howmet Aerospace (formerly named Arconic Inc. until April 2020 and formerly named Alcoa Inc. until November 2016) in May 2015. In her role as Associate General Counsel, Chief Securities and Governance Counsel and Assistant Secretary, she focuses on securities, corporate governance and finance matters. She provides legal counsel regarding matters relating to the Board of Directors and its committees, SEC reporting requirements, disclosure issues, stock exchange standards, and other securities and corporate governance matters. In addition, she works on corporate transactions and financings, including public offerings of equity and debt and acquisitions.
Prior to joining Alcoa in 2012, Margaret practiced at the law firms of Covington & Burling and Dewey & LeBoeuf (formerly named Dewey Ballantine). She represented companies and investment banks in a variety of capital markets transactions, including initial public offerings, equity and debt offerings and private placements, and advised on issues relating to securities law disclosures and compliance, and governance and general corporate matters.
Prior to her legal career, Margaret was a senior associate in the audit practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers, specializing in financial services companies.
Margaret earned her Juris Doctor at the University of Michigan Law School, where she was Managing Editor of the Michigan Journal of International Law. She received her Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in Accounting and Finance at New York University’s Stern School of Business. She is a member of the New York Bar and is a certified public accountant.
